The Third Annual Earth Day Celebration At Centenary College Had More Participants Than Ever Before. All Year Long Students And Faculty Members Have Been Focusing On Various Issues Concerning The Planet Like Global Warming, And College President Ken Schwab Says He's Not At All Surprised By Their Willingness To Get Involved.
Ken Schwab, Centenary College President Said, "I Think This Generation And Particularly Our Students Are Very Conscious Of Being Responsible Citizens. In Fact We Try Very Hard To Teach About Citizenship And What It Means To Be A Part Of A Greater Whole. And This Just Demonstrates That Commitment On Their Part."
So Committed That Students And Faculty Challenged Each Other In A Fundraiser Called Chains For Change. The Stipulation Was That If $1200 Was Raised, Four Members Of The Faculty Would Chain Themselves To Trees As An Homage, And They Kept That Their Promise.
Super: Jeanne Hamming, Asst. English Professor Said, "We Asked The Students And Faculty To Donate Money Towards A Solar Panel That Would Be Installed On The Roof Of The Library."
This Is The First Solar Panel Students And Faculty Will See On Campus, But The President Said He Hopes It Won't Be The Last, Especially Since They've Become A Lot More Affordable.
In Fact Each Panel Only Costs About A $1000 And Installers Say The System Can Help Reduce Bills By 25-30% While Lessening The Amount Of Natural Resources Consumed.
