A New Program Is Allowing Many Property Owners To Buy Vacant Lots For One Dollar. The City Of Shreveport Announced A Adjudicated Property Program Which Says After Homeowners Fill Out The Proper Applications, They Can Buy An Adjudicated Property Right Next Door To Them For Less Than A Bottle Of Soda.
Malcolm Stadtlander, Property Management Administrator
The Basics Of The Program Are That If A Property Has Been Adjudicated To The City Of Shreveport Over Three Years And It Is Vacant...And A Adjoining Property Owner Has Been Maintaining That Vacant Lot For A Year Then They Can Acquire It.

The New Program Is Not Only A Good Deal For Property Owners Taking Over Vacant Lots Like This One, Council Members Say The City Gets To Benefit As Well.
Joe Shyne, City Council President
We Spend About A Million And A Half Dollars Every Year Cutting Down Adjudicated Properties And That Is Wasting Money. So If We Can Get People In The Neighborhoods To Buy Into Buying The Property Next Door To Them And Keeping It Up, The First Year We Think We Will Save About A Half A Million.
Shyne Says The Program Should Allow The City To Spend Money On Important Projects Instead Of Maintaining Eye Sores. With Neighbors Getting To Expand Their Property And The City Getting To Cut Down On Spending The New Program Seems Like A Win Win.
Joe Shyne
Eventually We Want To Get Where We Can Save A 1.2 Million. It Is A Really Good Program And It Gets The Property Back In The Hands Of Citizens Who Will Eventually Pay Tax On It.
