Local jobs outlook: Margaritaville and more

Monday, April 1, 2013 - 7:59pm

In the past few months, there have been several layoff announcements in the area. Both Libby and Oak Farms Dairy announced layoffs in the hundreds. Despite those announcements, locals still feel the economy is on the mend, although they think it is still far from perfect, especially on the jobs front.

But with thousands of jobs coming to the area, that could all change. Benteler Steel won't start manufacturing until mid 2014, but are planning on starting construction at the port in June, expecting a construction crew of about a thousand.

It's isn't just new companies hiring though. The North Louisiana Economic Partnership has seen a growth in the technology industry the past few years, a trend that they don't expect to end soon.

As for when all the jobs will actually arrive, for places like Margaritaville Casino, really soon. The resort is on track for a June 2013 opening, planning to hire about 1,200 people for that, starting at a job fair at the Bossier Civic Center this Thursday from 9am until 8pm. Applicants are encouraged to apply in advance online at their website.

Hiring managers from Margaritaville Resort Casino will conduct on-site interviews, so applicants are encouraged to dress to impress. Applicants will also need to bring a valid I.D. and Social Security card.

Interviews will be conducted for positions in the following departments:

Food and Beverage

Information Technology

Margaritaville Resort Casino will also be accepting applications for a free Table Games Dealer School beginning April 9th applicants will learn a rewarding new career in just six weeks. No previous experience needed.
