UPDATE: Bossier City gas leak repaired, displaced residents return to homes

Monday, July 2, 2012 - 9:59am

UPDATE: CenterPoint Energy crews have stopped the gas leak and residents are being allowed to return the area.

A Bossier City spokesman tells KMSS that around 30-40 people were evacuated from the La Quinta Inn this morning due to a gas line break.

At around 9 a.m., crews working on the construction of a Hilton Garden Inn ruptured a gas line in the 300 block of Preston Blvd.

As a precaution, management at the La Quinta Inn and several houses in the area were moved to another location. City officials have also opened the Bossier Civic Center to shelter evacuees.

The break was caused by a back hoe that was being operated by private contractor. Crews with CenterPoint Energy are on scene addressing the issue.

Officials are unsure when the line will be repaired.
