Louisiana State Police Troop C and other local law enforcement agencies will be implementing the “No Refusal” Campaign this holiday season from Thanksgiving Day until January 2nd.

Impaired driving remains a major public safety threat that claims thousands of innocent lives on our roadways every year. The “No Refusal” Campaign is another step in the battle against impaired drivers. Troopers will be aggressively patrolling the highways this entire holiday season to ensure the safety of everyone as they travel to their destinations.

The reason for implementing the “No Refusal” Campaign is based on the nationwide trend that during certain holiday periods such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Mardi Gras, Labor Day, etc. alcohol consumption increases. The loss of life associated with impaired drivers can cause tremendous amounts of grief to family and friends. This has been addressed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and others in advertising, public information campaigns, high intensity patrol, and checkpoint programs. To combat this trend and reduce the number of injuries and fatalities caused by impaired drivers, Troop C and other law enforcement agencies will be cracking down on impaired drivers. If you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested. For those individuals suspected of impaired driving and who refuse to submit to a chemical test, “No Refusal” procedures will be implemented.

Louisiana State Police Troop C reminds everyone to have a designated driver and to help make this a safe holiday.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
