Lauren Jackson has been named director of the Office of Student Financial Aid at Northwestern State University. Jackson’s appointment has been approved by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

Jackson, a Northwestern State alumna, has worked in the Office of Student Financial Aid since 2002 as a verification officer from 2002-2005 and assistant director for verifications and state scholarships since 2005.

As assistant director, Jackson supervised and assisted three verification officers on site and one officer off site and researched federal and state regulations regarding the disbursement of Title IV assistance and state scholarships and incorporated them into day to day operations.

Jackson reviewed relevant income and tax documents for accuracy to determine Title IV eligibility and wrote and implemented policy and procedures.

While working as verification officer, Jackson counseled students and parents regarding federal, state and institutional financial aid, such as grants, loans, scholarships and campus student employment. She determined student eligibility for all types of Title IV financial assistance, including independent analysis and determination of benefits based on special circumstances. Jackson reviewed and verified data reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, encompassing both earned and unearned income as reported on tax forms and other earnings statements.
