Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — That's feeling in the air isn't the weather changing, it's the Red River Revel. It's so huge, it has its own atmosphere. Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but you get the idea.
I wanted to explore everything the Revel has to offer, from the fun, to the art, to the music, and of course the food. I knew exactly where I wanted to start; Kim's Sand Art. With no beach around, this sand comes direct from a shop. The only problem for the booth operators is that the sand comes only in white. That means they spend hours mixing in the colors to make it beautiful.
When my sand art masterpiece was complete, I went over to see how a real artist works. Although, this wasn't just your run of the mill artist; Henry Newbig of Louisiana Mud Paintings paints in just that, mud. His green is even from Webster Parish mud.
As great at the art is, that's not all there is the the Revel. How could you forget the food? After scoping out the booths, I decided to visit the muffaletta pizza booth. It's a double decker, with meat, cheese and of course that famous olive mix. Yummy!
My only complaint about the Red River Revel; it's only 8 days! I want it to last 365 days a year!
And that's just another reason I love the Ark-La-Tex!
