Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Today is April 17, so how is Shreveport already celebrating Holiday in Dixie? I sure didn't know, but I knew just the guy to ask, Eric Bicknell, the chairman of the Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club. It turns out Holiday in Dixie is a celebration of the Louisiana Purchase, and of course springtime.
A main component of Holiday in Dixie is a 10 day carnival, so I decided to try my hand at a few different games. It didn't go well, I'll stick to the Merry-Go-Round instead. I found a little girl who did love the games, although her mother was a woman after my heart, preferring food to games.
And wow, the food! I'm fairly lazy, and the first truck I found was TD Express, and boy was it a winner. Fish and crawfish tacos and a delightful new discovery called a piro, which is crawfish etoufee in a bread bowl smothered with cheese.
Although I would have liked to eat everything in sight, I knew I needed to save room for the first ever, Holiday in Dixie Barbecue Cook-Off on Saturday. Starting at three, Dixie-go-ers will have a chance to sample up to 35 different barbecue delicacies. I bet I don't need to tell you where I'll be Saturday!
