Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Cat Daddy's Cafe on Hollywood and Broadway is the place to be for hungry Shreveportians. Makes sense, Wednesday’s special is fried chicken; can’t go wrong with that.
As busy as the front of the restaurant is, the kitchen is where the action really is. After all, this chicken is hand battered and fried. According to owner Cat Daddy, that's how everything in his kitchen is made, from scratch, pick and peel, just like the shirts say"We pick our mustard greens, they don't come out of a can. We actually pick them fresh. And our canning yams, you know really sweet potatoes, we peel them. They don't come out of a can, we literally peel them."
Enough talking, I was ready for tasting. First on my list was that famous peanut butter pie. I couldn’t believe it when I tasted it, it’s peanut butterlicious! Cat Daddy was nice enough to share the recipe with me, "we just sprinkle a little love, and then we sprinkle some more love, and then we top it off with love."
It was so good, but I wasn't done yet. Next up, hot and steaming peach cobbler. It was so good that I had to ask an important question, "have you ever had anybody just face dive into your cobbler?" And the answer was yes! Cat Daddy’s Godson did it. He’s a man after my own heart.
As I was basking in the glow of these cakes, Cat Daddy told me something that had me wishing it was Friday. "One of our biggest days is Friday. We have turkey and dressing, like none other in the country." Oh my goodness, Thanksgiving every Friday!
Luckily cat daddy's café opens at 10:30 on Friday, so I don't have to wait too long. Monday through Thursday, and Saturday, he opens at 11.
And that's just another reason I love the Ark-La-Tex.
Cat Daddy’s Café is located at 4158 Hollywood Avenue, just west of Broadway Street.
