Haughton teacher arrested for sexual relationship with student
Haughton, LA (KMSS) — On Friday afternoon, Bossier Sheriff's deputies arrested a Haughton teacher for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student over the past few weeks.
Jessica Banet, 28, a teacher at Princeton Elementary School and one of the coaches of the girls' softball team for Haughton High School, was taken into custody for an inapropriate relationship with one of the softball players she coached. Banet was charged with prohibited sexual conduct between an eduactor and student.
There were no other students involved.
Louisiana Revised Statute 14:81.4 took effect in 2009 and prohibits sexual conduct between an educator and student when the student is between the ages of 17 and 21 and the age of the educator is four years greater than the age of the student. The crime is punishable with a fine up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment not to exceed six months.
