Shreveport, La — A Shreveport police officer is fired at while chasing two suspects on foot early Sunday morning.
At 12:30 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Corbitt Street near Union Avenue to reports of a large fight that had broken out at a house party and multiple shots were fired.
When police were en route to the location, they were told the alleged shooters had jumped in a car and sped off toward Vivian Street. A short time later, authorities spotted the vehicle on the 1900 block of Vivian Street.
After pulling the car over, two passengers hopped out and ran from officers. Officers gave chase and were shot at by one of the suspects, later identified as Demarco Evans, 26, of Shreveport. The officer who was shot at returned fire, but missed Evans.
The gunman was eventually caught by law enforcement on Cheatham Street near Joplin Avenue. The gun believed to be used was found in the area. With the help of a police dog, the second suspect was found hiding underneath a house on the 4000 block of Ridgemore Avenue.
A third suspect, the driver, gave himself up to police immediately after getting stopped.
Demarco Evans was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and resisting an officer by force or violence.
Mario Evans, 28, of Shreveport, was treated for minor injuries resulting from a dog bite and later charged with resisting arrest. Both men were booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
