Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — From Cork to Mudbug Madness to Holiday in Dixie and all the other upcoming events, spring festivals are a way of life in the Ark-La-Tex.
Not only do these events provide fun for the people that attend, they also help out the local economy.
Several years ago, an economic study was done for Memorial Weekend festival, Mudbug Madness. It showed that every aspect of the economy was helped by the festival. Not only did locals spend more that weekend, people came from far away to attend the event. The study showed that 35% of the festival's attendees were from outside of the Shreveport-Bossier area.
According to the Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Visitors Bureau, tourists will make vacation plans around the more established festivals, coming from across the nation to take part in the festivities here.
When tourists visit, cars need gas, they need a place to eat and sleep, which brings even more month to the area.
In 2013, three events have been names to the Southeast Tourism Society's list of the Top 20 events in 2013, so even more people are expected to attend those events. This year, the society named Cork... A Red River Revel Wine Event, Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Let the Good Times Roll to their list of events. The full list can be found of their website.
