An accident with multiple fatalities brought tens of first responders to the 49 in North Caddo Parish. Luckily, this accident was just a drill, helping emergency responders prepare in case that kind of accident does happen on that stretch of the freeway.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Caddo Fire District 1, 7 and 8, North Caddo E.M.S, Bossier Parish E.M.S, Balentine Ambulance, Life Air Rescue, Life Net in Texarkana, and Shreveport Fire Communications all participated in the drill.

In the drill, an 18 wheeler hauling hazardous materials was involved in an accident with a sedan and an SUV full of people. Emergency responders had to work with the rough terrain and stopped traffic to get to their “victims.”

After completing the drill, participants were happy with the results, but also found a few things they wanted to work on before the freeway opens.

Parts of this stretch of the 49, in northern Caddo Parish is expected to open sometime this summer.
