Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Authorities have confirmed the identity of the bicyclist that was killed in east Shreveport Friday night.
The man is identified as Samuel Leon Smith, 71. He died at a local hospital yesterday evening.
A cyclists is dead after a hit and run crash. I happened in east Shreveport Friday evening just after 7 p.m.
Shreveport Police Department were called to a hit and run crash that happened on the 2400 block of Southern Avenue involving a bicycle and pickup truck which had fled the scene.
On arrival, the man who had been operating the bicycle died from injuries from the collision of the truck.
The cyclist, who has not yet been identified, was described as an middle aged adult, African American male. Authorities believe that the man may be a member of the homeless community.
Witnesses on the scene told authorities that they heard tires squealing and then a grey or silver truck leaving the area where the cyclist was hit.
Shreveport Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after the accident and took the man to a local hospital where he was prounounced dead a short time later.
