Dump truck collides with pickup on Highway 71

Friday, October 19, 2012 - 2:55pm

A pickup and dump truck collided Friday morning on U.S. Highway 71 near Highway 173.

The accident took place shortly before 9:15 a.m., and sent the driver of the dump truck to a local hospital with minor injuries. The second driver, Mhonda Tanner, 29, of Blanchard, was not injured.

Tanner told authorities she was on Highway 173 and stopped at a stop sign to check for traffic. When she pulled out, she was hit by a dump truck, which had the right-of-way, headed northbound. The driver of the dump truck lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and ran into a patch of trees. He was thrown from his vehicle. Authorities have not yet released his name, but said he is 34 and from Dallas.

Deputies said the bed of the dump truck was empty, but a small amount of debris and diesel spilled on the roadway.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit, assisted by the Patrol Division, is investigating the crash.
