Drunk driver who killed 7 sentenced to 70 years in prison
CLINTON, La (NBC33) — Brett Gerald, the man who pled guilty to killing 7 people in a drunk driving wreck has been sentenced.
The judge sentenced Gerald to 10 years in prison for each of the 7 counts of vehicular homicde he pled guilty to. The first 35 years of the sentence have to be served without parole.
The wreck happened back in May. That's when 6 members of the Gaines family, and a family friend were hit and killed. They were on their way home from church.
In court today, many of the family members of the victim told Gerald they forgave him. Gerald had the chance to address family members before being sentence. He accepted responsibilty, and added not a day goes by that he doesn't think about the victims, and pray for their family members.
