A man suspected of stealing a car nearly a year ago is now in jail thanks in part to DNA evidence.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. on September 14, 2013, Shreveport Police were called to the 200 block of Spring Street in response to reports of a carjacking.

When police arrived at the scene, a man was found unconscious, suffering multiple head injuries.
Information at the scene led detectives to believe the victim had been attacked by a group of men who, after beating the man, stole his SUV.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Shreveport Police recovered and impounded the stolen vehicle which was then used as evidence in the crime. Evidence was collected from the SUV and given to the North Louisiana Crime Lab for processing.

Shreveport Police robbery detectives were notified the DNA evidence recovered from the vehicle had been matched to Shawn Swift, 34, of Shreveport of the 3300 block of Judy Lane in Shreveport.

Swift was arrested without incident on Monday, while in the 2500 block of Youree Drive. He was charged with one count of carjacking and booked into Shreveport Jail.
