Crime Stoppers tip leads authorities to alleged Shreveport rapist

Monday, July 2, 2012 - 12:35pm

Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip, authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted sexual assault that took place at a west Shreveport motel Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened around 12:00 p.m. at the Motel California on the 7300 block of Lewis Lane.

Officials believe Johnson forced his way into a woman's motel room, and once inside the room, Johnson allegedly attacked the woman with a hypodermic needle and knife as he tried to sexually assault her. The woman was able to escape and Johnson ran the scene of the crime.

Officers took 43-year-old Derrick Dewayne Johnson into custody without incident this afternoon at a truck stop in the 6900 block of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop after responding to a Crime Stoppers tip.

Johnson is charged with one count of home invasion and one count of attempted aggravated rape. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
