Valley Grande, AL (CNN/WSFA) — A couple is accused of hanging their puppy by its neck, then posting pictures of it on Facebook,.
The pictures are shocking, too shocking to be shown. A small black puppy was strung up and dangling from the ceiling of a Valley Grande home as his owners snapped pictures and posted them to Facebook.
Michael Jackson, Dallas Co. District Attorney says the poor dog was hanging from the ceiling with some kind of rope around its neck.
Dallas County investigators were tipped off about the Facebook post and launched an investigation into the puppy's owners, Caroline Dunnam, 26, and Andrew Parrish, 23, turned themselves in on Friday for animal cruelty.
"I guess they thought it was a joke or something to hang a poor little dog," said Jackson.
The post was titled "My Poor Baby" comments on Caroline Dunnam's Facebook page show her taking flak over the incident but she fired back, admitting to hanging the dog and saying she didn't care what anybody thought.
Somehow, the puppy managed to survive the ordeal as you can see, he's doing much better today. He's being cared for at the Selma Animal Hospital."
The staff calls him Timmy and they say he's come out of his shell as he recovers, his case shedding light on animal abuse in the area.
Rebecca Wilson of the Selma Animal Hospital says there's just lots of cases like this of people abusing dogs and thinking it's funny to hang them up and not feed them and leave them outside to freeze and fight them.
"This is something you don't see everyday and it's something that you hope you don't see ever again," said Jackson.
Dunnam and Parrish are free on bond for animal cruelty charges and the Dallas County District Attorney says they should make their first appearance in the near future.
The puppy has been turned over to animal control.
