Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Serve and protect. That's what fire fighters and police do in the community.
However, today, at Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church's Community Thanksgiving, they and other volunteers, focused simply on serving.
Serving people who otherwise might not get a Thanksgiving dinner, like Shreveport newcomer Donald Cooke.
For others, like James Whadden from Woody's House for Veterans, the Community Thanksgiving is a precursor to Thursday. However, that does't mean Tuesday's event wasn't special for Whadden, it was. After more than two years living at Woody's House, Whadden is moving into his own apartment, so he spent the the morning enjoying time with his roommates.
That sense of the community as family is part of the reason Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church puts on this annual event.
