Coalition looks to educate people on healthcare reform changes
Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — The Louisiana Healthcare Education Coalition took over the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning, for the Northwest Louisiana launch of the group, aimed at helping people navigate through the upcoming changes to health care.
There are more than 20,000 pages to the Patient Care and Affordable Care Act, and the Kaiser Foundation calculated that 57% of people don't understand how the Affordable Care Act will change healthcare. With those figures in mind, the coalition came to be, trying to be a unified voice answering questions.
With already 40 different groups participating in the coalition, the group is hopeful they will have the resources to reach people in all walks of life.
As changes keep coming to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, scheduled to go into effect October 1, the Louisiana Healthcare Education Coalition hopes to have events statewide to keep people up to date.
They also have a website to help people navigate through the changes.
