Car sales up for the month of February

Tuesday, March 5, 2013 - 7:56pm

For people that bought cars in February, that action was followed by many,

Nationwide, car sales from the major manufacturers were up. Ford led the way, up nine percent from last year. The rest of the pack followed suit from General Motors to Toyota and even Chrysler, all were up.

At the same time people were complaining about an increase in gas prices, they were buying big trucks instead of compact or alternative fuel vehicles. The Ford F-Series was up 15% from February 2012.

While sales were up nationwide, they were also very strong in the Ark-La-Tex. Chris Hebert of Hebert's Town & Country Ford Lincoln attributes that to two main factors: a strengthening of the economy and pent up demand for new cars.

Currently, the age of cars on the road is at a record high.

As car sales often dictate the rest of the economy, February sales indicate a strong economy for the Ark-La-Tex
