Camp Minden, LA (KMSS) — Officials have released the cause for a recent explosion that took place at the Camp Minden Goex plant two weeks ago.
Louisiana State Police Colonel Michael Edmonson and Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton report the blast was caused by improperly stored M6 propellant.
Officials are working to find a way to safely store about a million pounds of propellant, but warn it can be very dangerous to move.
Back on November 13, a Goex representative revealed a "fairly small explosion" took place at 8:36 a.m. Due to safety precautions in place, the explosion was kept from being much larger.
No injuries and minimal damage were reported following the blast.
Last month, there was another, larger explosion at Camp Minden that occurred in a bunker owned by Explo.
