Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Caddo Parish schools don't start until the 12th, but for 130 new teachers, the school year started today.
From new programs, to preparing for the common core standards curriculum, the new teachers had their hands full learning and preparing for next Monday, when 42,000 students report back to school.
Their busy schedule didn't keep them from welcoming a special visitor; in one of his last duties as superintendent, Dr. Gerald Dawkins welcomed the new teachers, inspiring them with stories from his on career in academia.
While Dawkins is the superintendent that welcomed the teachers, he won't be the same one who guides them through out the year. With Dawkins' contract set to expire August 12, many within the district and community are wondering what will come next.
It looks like they will continue to wonder, as Dawkins isn't yet announcing what is next in his future.
