For most kids, their favorite part of the day is relaxing and having fun after school gets out. But for about 150 families, relaxing isn't on the agenda for after school today.
Instead, they will be attending a mass meeting on truancy, and paying a fee at the Caddo Parish Courthouse, because their children had 5 or more unexcused absences from school.
The truancy program was initially started in 2005, but cut because of budget constraints. Now, it's back- at least until December, thanks to money from the Caddo Parish School District and the Juvenile Justice Facility.
The goal of this program isn't to get kids and parents in trouble with the law, but to get kids in school; learning and becoming better citizens.
