Bossier SO: Tornado touched down in area; 10 houses damaged

The Bossier Sheriff's Office confirms an alleged tornado touched down in the area of Plain Dealing on Buckshot Road.

According to KMSS meteorologists, a tornado warning was issued at 3:10 a.m., and a report of a child inury and house damage followed just 3 minutes later. Deputies later learned no one was hurt outside of minor scratches and bruises.

Davis said four to six houses received substantial damage and another 10 had moderate to slight damage. The tornado is believed to have traveled in an easterly to northeasterly direction from Buckshot Road to Rat Terrier Lane near Highway 537. The alleged tornado's path measured about a mile.

Crews are currently working to clear debris and downed trees on houses in the area. Bossier Sheriff Julian C. Whittington is on scene directing deputies, as well as inmates.

The National Weather Service sent a survey team to examine the reports. They were able to identify the tornado as en EF-2.

Some families are expected to be displaced, but the situation is still being assessed, said Davis.

Buckshot Road is located about 6 miles west of Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
