Bossier Parish law enforcment searching for would-be burglar

Tuesday, July 31, 2012 - 4:25pm

The Bossier Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who broke a front glass door of the Dixie Mart in the Dogwood subdivision in Haughton early Monday morning.

Video surveillance from the convenience store shows a white male feverishly trying to gain access into the Dixie Mart (formerly known as Dogwood Grocery) located on Dogwood Trail just east of Stockwell Road about 1:30 a.m. Monday morning; the store closes at 10 p.m. Sunday night and reopens at 5 a.m. on Monday.

The suspect appears to have some type of impairment from alcohol or drugs by his actions. He knocks on the door and window for several minutes, pounds the glass with his head, hands and elbow. Apparently frustrated that no one lets him in, he picks up the outdoor ashtray and strikes the front door, breaking the glass. The store’s alarm sounded, and that’s when the would-be thief decided to hit the road. Deputies arrived on scene soon after to find the suspect’s rampage resulted in property damage to the door.

The man is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, slim build and regular height and brown hair. He was wearing short pants, no shirt and traveling on foot. Detectives believe he probably has some injuries to his right elbow and hand because of the attempted break-in.

Anyone who has any information about this case is asked to contact the Bossier Sheriff’s Office at 318-965-2203 and ask to speak with a detective.
