Bossier Parish Community College announces events scheduled for Black History Month 2013:

 

Take Me Back: A Tribute to Gospel Music

February 21 – 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Location: Student Services Building, Building F, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA

 

The BPCC Gospel Choir (BGC) will hold a concert in honor of Black History Month entitled Take Me Back: A Tribute to Gospel Music. The gospel choir will perform variety of selections ranging from hand clapping spirituals to church gospels. The BPCC Gospel Choir, under the direction of Kenneth Cornelius, will also feature Kelvin Johnson on drums and Jessica Douglas on bass. “The performance is part of BPCC Gospel Choir’s outreach to the community and provides cultural enhancement to those in attendance,” says Dr. Cindy Darby, Advisor, BPCC Gospel Choir.

 

 

2nd Annual African American Literary Read-In

February 28 – 11:30 a.m.

Location: Building F Room 220, on the BPCC campus, 6220 East Texas Street, Bossier City, LA.

 

BPCC is proud to host the 2nd Annual African American Literary Read-In on February 28, 2013 in Building F, Room 220 on the BPCC campus, 6220 East Texas Street, Bossier City, LA. This event is part of the annual African American Literary Read-In celebrated by readers from 49 states. It is free and open to the public.

 

The African American Literary Read-In 2013, celebrated during Black History Month, promotes literacy. Among the readers will be Dr. Ray Scott Crawford, Dean Communications and Performing Arts; Dr. Frances S. Conley, Instructor, Liberal Arts; Dr. Dawn Young, Professor, Behavioral & Social Sciences; and Ellen Boose, Assistant Professor, Liberal Arts.

 

Attendees will hear passages from selected literary works and contributions of African American authors and poets. The National African American Literary Read-In was established by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in 1990 and is sanctioned by the NCTE and endorsed by the International Reading Association.
