Blood shortage in the Ark-La-Tex

Lifeshare needs public's help

Friday, January 4, 2013 - 6:02pm

What better way to start the New Year off by giving your time and a little blood. Lifeshare blood centers in Shreveport are reporting a shortage in blood and need the public’s help.

“Right now unfortunately we have a critical situation, our o-negative blood supply has dropped to a critical level,” said Tina Hooper who represents the blood centers.

O-negative can be used in instances when its recipient’s blood type is unknown, such as newborn babies and people that are involved in accidents.

It takes at least 24 hours after someone donates blood before it is available to use.“It’s under a two day supply which is very concerning to us and we are making an appoint to let those in the community know what’s going on," said Hooper.

To make a donation, call 318-673-1471 or visit www.lifeshare.org. Various locations and hours throughout the Ark-La-Tex are listed below.
