Authorities looking for gunman who ransacked Shreveport home

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 - 6:19pm

Police detectives are investigating a reported home invasion that occurred in west Shreveport this afternoon.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on July 17, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a home in the 7200 block of West Canal Boulevard relative to a home invasion. Upon arrival there, officers contacted several juveniles who were in the residence at the time of the crime and learned an adult male victim knocked on the door and produced a handgun. The man told the children to get into a closet and when they complied, he apparently began ransacking the home as if he was looking for something in particular. The suspect allegedly stole several cell phones belonging to the juveniles and then fled the scene of the crime. No one was injured.

Detectives were immediately dispatched and are working at this hour to identify and apprehend the suspect, described as a black male, approximately six feet two inches tall with a thin build who left driving a dark green, two door Honda with dark tinted windows. He was described by the victims as having short hair and gold teeth. At this early stage of their inquiry, investigators do not believe this was a random act and they think the offender targeted this home. Anyone with any information regarding this crime is urged to contact robbery detectives at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
