While sales are up at firework stands across the Ark-La-Tex and excitement in the air for the July 4th holiday, officials are emphasizing safety first.

“You want to make sure you’re as safe as you can be and you don't cause other injuries and other disasters as a result of playing with these fireworks," said Michelle Davidson of the Red Cross.

When using fireworks this holiday officials recommend proper adult supervision, making sure you’re in an open environment and keeping a garden hose or bucket of water in place just in case of an emergency.

While safety is on the front minds of many buyers, vendors across the region have seen an increase in firework sells leading up to the big day.

“Sales are up this season, in January it rain the whole time so sales were really down, so we are anticipating a good season this year because everybody is ready to pop," said Chrissie Veuleman who works at Liberty Fireworks on Barksdale Highway.
