3 in custody in Los Angeles area brush fire

Hundreds of firefighters were battling a fast-moving brush fire east of Los Angeles on Thursday morning -- a blaze that had spread to 1,700 acres just hours after it had been first reported, authorities said.

Three people were taken into custody Thursday in connection with the "Colby fire" in the Glendora area of Los Angeles County, Glendora police said.

The fire started shortly before 6 a.m. PT, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Five hundred firefighters were battling the flames Thursday morning, according to John Wagner of the Angeles National Forest.
