Sabine Humane Society continues rescue efforts
Up to twenty horses are dead at a Many ranch and their owner charged with animal cruelty. Larry Kelly of the Sabine Humane Society says dozens of animals were seized from the property over the weekend. Now he and the two-person staff of the shelter are working double-time to rehabilitate the malnourished animals. "It's been kind of tough," he said. "If you see watermarks around our ears, that's because that's how deep we've been."
Many of the horses are now in Alexandria, where they're receiving emergency veterinary care. Others have been placed with the Louisiana Horse Rescue Assocation. Kelly says the horses will remain with their caregivers for several days and nursed to full health before they arrange adoptions.
