The debate over a possible LSU-Shreveport merger with Louisiana Tech is heating up. The merger was recommended in a report by Eva Klein & Associates released last month. Under the terms of the merger, LSU-Shreveport would become a part of the University of Louisiana system, dropping its LSU affiliation.
That's drawn opposition from LSU-system president John Lombardi, who promised he'd bring new programs to the school. Students we spoke to say that's enough of a reason to stay with LSU, if the wider administration will recognize their concerns. Today's protest rally is to let them know that, said organizers.
The merger proposal has already gotten the approval of the Louisiana Board of Regents. It now goes before the legislature for a vote.
