Charles Blanks has served as pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for almost 6 years, but his time as a reserve officer with the Springhill Police Department only lasted 6 months. Blanks was arrested Monday for allegedly having sex with a female inmate while he was tranpsorting her from Springhill police headquarters to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd says it happened October 14, but his department didn't receive word until November 9, after the inmate reported the incident to Arkansas authorities. Lynd confirms that Blanks no longer works with the police force. Under questioning, Lynd says, Blanks admitted to the charges.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison for malfeasance in office.
