Police detectives are looking for a local man accused of battering a woman in west Shreveport earlier this week.
Late last month, investigators with the department’s Sex Crimes Unit began receiving reports of a male suspect allegedly attempting to scam women by passing himself off as a photographer for a film studio. According to witnesses, the subject was allegedly telling the victims that if they paid him a certain amount of money and sent him pictures of themselves, he would find them work in major projects. He followed up on those promises by asking the females to meet him at an office in the Kingwood Business Center.
On January 30, 2012, detectives were attempting to contact the man there on Kingston Road when he apparently realized they were looking for him and attempted to flee the scene. As he made good his escape, he allegedly accosted a female victim that was in the office with him. Investigators subsequently obtained an arrest warrant charging the man, identified as 40 year old Derrick D. Nicholson, with one count of simple battery. His bond is set at $2,500. Nicholson, who is a registered sex offender, lives in the 8300 block of Green Leaf Lane in Shreveport.
Detectives will continue working to determine if Nicholson will face other charges in connection with the reported activities. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Derrick Nicholson is asked to call investigators at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
