Car washes and ice cream shops aren't usually busy places in January, even in the warm Ark-La-Tex. That's changing this year, though, as unseasonably warm temperatures sweep through the area, and it's giving some businesses an unexpected mid-winter boost.
Roadrunner Car Wash on Youree Drive owner Walter Smith says business is up about 20 percent. "People don't want to get out when it's cold and when it gets warmed up, all of a sudden they start piling up," he said.
Down the street, Fruiti Yogo employee Iris Macleas said sales at the yogurt shop this January are double that of last year. "Last year, it was a lot colder, so we didn't seem as many people. In the last few weeks, it's really picked up. This is the kind of desert people like to eat when the weather's like this," she said.
