Neighbors of 2-year-old Yeli Madalyn Jimenez say they're shocked by the toddler's sudden death. The little girl was rushed to the hospital late Saturday night where she was pronounced dead. Jay Webb with the Harrison County Sheriff's Office says the mother, 21-year-old Felipa Dominguez, believed the child had fallen from a crib. An autopsy, however, revealed the toddler died of blunt force trauma to the stomach. Now they're searching for 27-year-old Jose Luis Casiano-Aburto, the mother's boyfriend. Police say he was in the country illegally and fled to Mexico Monday.
Eva Hernandez, a neighbor of the couple, said she baby-sat for the couple and that Felipa had always been kind to her children. "She is a good woman, a good mother, good at everything," she said.
The incident happened at the couple's home in Marshall. Police are continuing their search for Aubrto, aided by Mexican authorities.
