After 30 years of giving back to the community, a Minden homeless shelter is asking for help to continue its mission. United Christian Home operates three homes on Fuller Street, which can house up to 21 people at a time. However, years of use are taking their toll and a recent building inspection showed the leaky roofs need urgent repair. "It needs something done...yesterday would be too late, just about it," said A.J. Rayner, who performed the inspection.
Rayner estimates the repairs will cost about $15,000 and will mean the difference between keeping the buildings open or tearing them down. "If we don't get something done pretty soon, well, you know, it's gonna be where you can't do nothing with it, where it'll have to be torn down," he said.
