Bossier deputies arrested a Haughton man early Sunday for his alleged fourth DWI in the last eight years.
Officials stopped 50-year old Merle E. Carter II just past midnight Sunday after driving eastbound on Highway 80 in Haughton with no headlights.
When the deputy began talking to Carter, he noticed an odor of alcohol. Carter had very poor balance when he walked, his eyes were bloodshot and glossy and he refused to take the sobriety test. The deputy also found an open bottle of vodka in the passenger seat of Carter’s vehicle.
Carter was arrested and taken to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility for booking, where he refused to take a chemical breath test and provide a urine sample. His bond is set at $50,400.
Carter was charged with DWI – 4th offense, open container and driving without headlights. Previous arrests for DWI were in April 2004, December 2007 and October 2010.
