FEMA officials discuss hurricane preparedness
Officials from six states are meeting in Shreveport this week to discuss hurricane preparedness. They're setting up in Hirsch Memorial Colliseum in an exerise they call "shelter in a box." Leaders from the Office of Homeland Secuirty and Emergency Preparedness and the Region 6 Advisory Council (RAC) are on hand to help set up cots, even conduct mock physical exams on "injured" citizens.
"Some of the topics we are addressing in this RAC meeting affect everyone--including ways to streamline the process for sheltering reimbursement for our local, state, tribal and non-profit partners," said Sandy Davis, who chairs the Caddo-Bossier office.
Officials say that recent dry weather is no reason to be unprepared for a hurricane. Anyone who wants more information on the program or disaster preparedness can go to the FEMA website for more tips and tools.
