Local retailers got a big jump in sales, just time for Easter. National sales are expected to top $16.8 billion, up 11 percent from last year. Katherine Hobbs of Lewis's Gift Shop in Shreveport said the Easter bunnies were hopping off the shelves all week long. "It's been busy. Much busier than last year," she added.

Big sellers include clothing, candy and novelty merchandise, like Easter baskets or egg kits. The average consumer will spend $145 on Easter this year, according to the National Retail Federation. That's up about $10 per person from last year.
