Driver arrested in school bus accident

The driver of a Caddo Parish school bus involved in an accident earlier this morning has been booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for DUI, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Janise Driggers, 57, was arrested for driving under the influence (first offense) with children under the age of 12 on board, careless operation, and vehicular negligent injury.

Driggers voluntarily consented to a blood test after the accident that left four juvenile passengers injured. The results are pending. Caddo Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Ardoin said Driggers showed symptoms of prescription drug use and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He said it also appeared that Driggers was driving faster than the posted speed limit.

Driggers was picking up children for Summerfield Elementary School when she ran off the west side of the road, over corrected, then hit an embankment on the east side of the road. The bus spun around 180 degrees then flipped onto its passenger side. The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of Harper Road.

The four juveniles were the only passengers on the bus at the time. All were taken to Willis-Knighton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
