Community reacts to bond vote

Bossier Parish voters said no this weekend to two bond measures which would have raised property taxes about $120 for the average pay for a 5 percent increase in teacher salaries and another $3 million for new technology in local schools.

Jackie Lansdale, president of Red River United, said the decision was disappointing, but thanked the school board for bringing it to a vote. "I thought it was a bold proposal in behalf of the teachers and school employees by the Bossier Parish School Board and their administration. We knew it would be tough," she said.

Both measures failed to pass by a 50 percent margin. A third item, which didn't raise taxes, would appropriate about $210 to build new schools in Bossier Parish. That measure passed by 51 percent.
