Caddo Sheriff’s Office conducts underage alcohol sales operation

Two store clerks were cited in an underage alcohol operation conducted this past weekend by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Division, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Ashley Jones, 24, a clerk at the Rustic Cowboy in Keithville, and Robin Jackson, 47, a clerk at the Longwood General Store in Mooringsport, were cited for unlawful sales to persons under 21.

Thirty-five businesses were checked during the operation, but only two sold alcohol to minors under the age of 21.

This was the first operation since seven businesses were called before the Caddo Parish Commission in March for not complying with state liquor laws. During the hearing, all of the businesses were fined except one, which was given a warning.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office conducts regular checks of businesses that sell alcohol to ensure compliance with laws and to crack down on underage drinking.

“Holding these businesses accountable at a higher level appears to have gotten some folks attention,” Prator said of the fact that fewer violators were cited this time. None of the offenders cited during this operation were among those who appeared last month before the Commission. “The consequences of selling alcohol to minors or persons under the age of 21 go far beyond a fine or losing a license – they can be deadly,” he said.
