Blessings of Grace, the food pantry of Jefferson, Texas, will feed over 100 families tonight. However, that almost didn't happen, when workers walked in after Thanksgiving and found empty shelves. Emergency donations from area schools and civic groups have helped the food bank to stay open, but demand is at an all-time high, after a recession that's hit Marion County hard...and the September wildfires that destroyed more than 80 homes.
The food pantry says it receives an outpouring of support from the community when it reaches out for help, and it says now's the time to do that. There is an immediate need for all canned goods, especially canned meats. Monetary donations are the best, says Director Shirley Partridge, because it allows Blessings of Grace to buy directly from the East Texas Food Pantry at a discounted rate.
