The Heflin community has lost a lot in the last few years. The school has closed, its last remaining store has folded and the post office faces a shutdown this year. Now community members are getting more bad news. Their library may be on the chopping block, too.
The Webster Parish Libray Board met Friday to discuss the future of the Heflin library. Director Beverly Hammett pointed out that the library has seen a drastic drop in visitors since the school closed...and now the building needs repairs, including a new air conditioning system.
Speaking out for the library, though, Carleigh Leake told the board it the community will help in any way it can. "We are a close-knit community," she added. "This is something that should be thought about."
