Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — The Caddo Council on Aging will host its 9th Annual March for Meals at Noon on March 13, 2013 in Festival Plaza in Shreveport. The goal of the event is to raise awareness for the needs of area seniors.
Mayor Cedric Glover and Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will serve as the VIP Grand Marshalls of the March for Meals and will be accompanied by Shreveport’s own Dallas Cowboy Morris Claiborne.
Other March participants include the Byrd High School Marching Band and Cheerleading Squad, Byrd High School Concert Band, City Council Representatives, Caddo Council on Aging Board of Directors, and representatives from many organizations and businesses who support our seniors. In addition, area food and beverage vendors will be on-site for the event.
Today, one in every six Americans, or 44 million people, are 60 years of age or older. While older Americans are active members of their families and communities, others are at risk of losing their independence.
These include four million Americans aged 85 and older, those living alone without a caregiver, those living in nursing homes or other institutional settings, members of minority groups, older persons with physical or mental impairments, low-income older persons, and those who are abused, neglected or exploited.
