Man arrested for allegedly firing shots at home
Shreveport, LA — A Shreveport man is behind bars tonight following his arrest for allegedly firing multiple shots at a east Shreveport home this morning.
At around 12:15 this afternoon, Shreveport Police officers were called to a home in the 400 block of West 74th Street relative to an apparent drive-by shooting. Witnesses on scene at the home told authorities that a heavy set black male was observed firing several rounds from a handgun from inside a black Oldsmobile vehicle. No persons were injured during the shooting however; the residence sustained minor damage resulting from the gunfire. Investigating officers learned that the suspect was thought to be 20 year old Devangelo Simmons of the 100 block of Taliaferro Drive in Shreveport. The shooting suspect fled in the vehicle prior to the arrival of officers.
Just after 5:00 this evening, officers were called back to the West 74th Street home after receiving calls that a man fitting Simmons description had been spotted driving past the residence again, still inside the black car. Moments after receiving the call, responding officers were successful in locating and stopping the vehicle containing Devagelo Simmons while in 7100 block of Burlingame Boulevard. Following further investigation, evidence found on scene of the crime linked Simmons to the earlier shooting. Following interviews with Shreveport Police Detectives, Simmons was arrested for one count of illegal use of a weapon from a moving vehicle, in addition to taking contraband into a penal facility. An exact motive for the shooting has not been established at this point however; investigators have reason to believe that the shooting stems from an existing rift involving Simmons and persons affiliated with the targeted home.
