LSU Medical Center put aside all thought of budget cuts and possible privatization to put on a Halloween Spectacular for the Pediatric Floor and Pediatric ICU patients.
The party took over the whole floor, with face painting, games and spooky sweet treats. This party takes the whole year to plan, because the hospital isn't given a budget for things like this. The whole hospital, not just the kids wing, take part in fundraising for this event and others like it.
They can see the importance in events like this one. If the kids were at home, they would get to attend Halloween parties, and hospital staff wants to keep their lives as normal as possible.
Studies have been conducted that show when hospital life mimics normal life as much as possible, recovery happens much sooner.
And these kids are definitely normal in one aspect; with all the games and activities, their favorite part of the part was all of the treats and candy.
